Listserves are discussions pertaining
to specific topics that are facilitated by electronic mail. They
provide a communication tool for members to discuss issues of mutual
concern and create great networking opportunities. You can post
questions or responses to questions, or just comment on the topic
at hand.
Access to the lists is free to NAEOP members. Members
will be able to subscribe or unsubscribe by signing up on the “mailing
list” link on NAEOP’s home page www.naeop.org.
Listserve etiquette
As a courtesy to others - and to protect yourself
- please follow these etiquette guidelines when using the NAEOP's
listserve service.
1. Use a brief, clear and descriptive entry on the "Subject"
line.
2. Please be sure to include your full name, affiliation(s) and
e-mail address at the bottom of your posting.
3. Be sure the topic you are discussing is appropriate for the list.
4. When replying to a listserve message, please direct your reply
to the proper person or group of users.
* When you simply hit the "reply" button on a listserve
message, the
entire list will receive your reply. If the original message requires
you to reply to the list, or if you want your comments to be seen
by the entire list, simply use the "reply" option.
* However, if you wish to reply only to the person
who sent the
original message, make note of the sender's e-mail address and compose
a new message to that user alone.
5. Do not use the listserve to send angry, critical
or emotionally charged messages. If you have a conflict with someone
on the list, send that person a private e-mail message. Do not air
your grievances publicly through the listserve.
6. Use sentence-case (both uppercase and lowercase)
letters in your message. USING ALL CAPITAL LETTERS IS THE E-MAIL
EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING and is considered rude by some people.
7. Do not use the listserve as an advertising medium
for your company, product or service.
8. Use humor and sarcasm sparingly. Humor in e-mail
messages can easily be misinterpreted; remarks that you think are
funny can come across as rude to others. Often, adding a smiley
face helps show you are joking.
